Finding Real Peace
Can you imagine what it would be like to have an abiding, life-giving peace in your heart? The world we live in is so troubling with so much uncertainty and fear. We are all trying our best to pay our bills, raise our kids and get through the week. The pressures of life and the demands of the days can overwhelm even the strongest of us. Who hasn’t ever thought of giving up or giving in? We all have failed in one way or another to find the kind of peace that lasts, the kind of peace that is real. We all have found ourselves wondering if there isn’t a larger picture or a greater purpose than just surviving another incident or making it through another day. You’re not alone if you have ever felt the freezing grip of anxiety or the darkening cloud of depression. Here at Gateway Fellowship you will find ordinary people just like yourself, folks that have tried everything to find a sense of peace and purpose for living. Good people, just like you, who only needed to be shown the way to experience a peace that’s real and enduring, a peace that surpasses understanding...a peace that only Jesus Christ can give.
Jesus promised us his peace to guard our hearts and minds. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
My friend, you and I need this peace that Jesus promised. The world will offer many substitutes but only Jesus can give us the peace that settles our minds and secures our hearts. The root of anxiety, fear and depression is in being separated from God and his love. Without God’s presence and love we can never experience real peace. Sin has caused this separation between us and God. Until we can get rid of our sin we can never really have a peace with God that goes beyond sacrifice and religious attempts to please him. There’s no life in those things, only more demands, rules and tedious regulations. That’s not why you were created. That’s not why Jesus came and died for your sins and mine. Jesus came to remove the guilt, shame and power of sin from us. He came and lived as we live, he was tempted as we are tempted and he suffered as we suffer. The big difference is that he came to take the rap for us. He gave his life as a ransom for you and me. He paid the debt for all of our sin, the sin that separates us from God and his love. He did this for us so that we could live in peace with God.
You can have this peace that Jesus promised. Just admit to yourself and to God that you have sinned. Go ahead, ask Him to forgive you and to give you his peace. Ask Jesus Christ, who died for you and rose from the dead for you, to become your Lord and Savior. Simply believe in Jesus, surrender your heart to his love and call on him to save you and you too can have this wonderful peace that he promised.
